  1. Flu Vaccine (1 dose) - can be given at 12 weeks of gestation onwards

The influenza (Flu) Vaccine prevents influenza caused by 2 influenza A virus subtypes + 2 influenza B virus subtypes.

Pregnancy comes with changes in the immune system, the flu vaccine can prevent the flu up to 40%.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) state that the flu vaccine can be given at any trimester of pregnancy.

It is advisable that pregnant women receive the flu vaccine as it passes protection against the flu to their baby.
  2. Hepatitis B Vaccine (3 doses) - can be given at 12 weeks of gestation onwards, only if the patient has never received the Hepatitis B Vaccine.

Hepatitis B is a viral infection that attacks the liver and can cause short-term (acute) and long-term (chronic) liver disease.

This vaccine is recommended for women whose Hepatitis B screening shows:
    - HBS Ag ( - ) and Anti-HBS ( - ), and have never received the Hep B vaccine or
    - HBS Ag (+) and ( - ) Anti HBS

After receiving the Hepatitis B Vaccine, the mothers pass protection against HepB to their unborn babies.

3 doses of the Hepatitis B Vaccine are given at 0, 1, and 6 months of pregnancy to provide the mother lifelong immunity as well as prevent a Hepatitis B infection of the baby during pregnancy and delivery.

The Hepatitis B vaccine cannot be given at the same time as any other vaccine.

  3. Tdap Vaccine (1 dose) - can be given from 27 - 35 weeks of gestation

The Tdap Vaccine prevents the following bacterial infections with just 1 dose:

Tetanus: Also known as lockjaw, it causes painful muscle spasms.

Diphtheria: A highly contagious infection that can cause difficulty breathing and heart problems.

Pertussis: Commonly known as whooping cough, it's a respiratory infection that can lead to severe coughing fits.

When a pregnant mother receives the Tdap vaccine, her body creates antibodies that are passed to her baby to protect the baby from infection.

The current recommendation is for pregnant women to receive the Tdap vaccine at 27-35 weeks of gestation, so that at the last trimester of pregnancy, the mother’s antibodies can be transferred to the baby through the placenta.

The patient must have previously received 3 doses of tetanus vaccine as a child, in order to get the TDaP vaccine.

  4. RSV Vaccine (Abrysvo) (1 dose) - can be given at 32-36 weeks of gestation

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes infections of the lungs and respiratory tract. The RSV Vaccine helps the pregnant woman’s immune system form antibodies against RSV that are later passed to the baby before birth. This provides the baby protection against RSV for the first few months of life, which is when they are most vulnerable to a severe RSV infection.

The vaccine provided is the only RSV vaccine approved for use in pregnancy, which is Pfizer Abrysvo. This RSV vaccine is recommended for women between 32-36 weeks of pregnancy.
