To ensure smooth and successful procedures, follow specific instructions given by the doctor before taking the required tests.
- The total testosterone test is best performed between 7:00 to 10:00 a.m., and the doctor may advise the patient to avoid eating and drinking anything other than water 8 hours before the test.
- Depending on the doctor, DHEAS may require a patient to stop taking certain medicines or supplements before the test.
1️⃣ (1) 30-minute initial consultation with a Pediatrician for the first assessment and taking of medical history
2️⃣ (2) 30-45 minute consultations (1 Initial consultation, 1 Follow-up) with an OBGYN to address the reproductive aspect of PCOS, conduct hirsutism evaluation, and request necessary laboratory work-ups.
3️⃣ Ferriman galleway visual scoring - a physical examination used to evaluate hirsutism
4️⃣ TSH, FT4, LH, FSH - to measure levels of these hormones, wherein too low/high levels cause irregular or lack of periods and anovulation.
5️⃣ Prolactin - to check levels of prolactin to evaluate functioning and regulation of endocrine system
The PCOS Screening Package for Pre-Teens and Teens (Upgrade) includes the following add-ons for those who have accomplished the initial screening:
1️⃣ Total testosterone - to measure level of the hormone testosterone in your blood
2️⃣ DHEAS (Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate) - to check the function of adrenal glands and measure levels of a steroid hormone that the body converts into estrogen and androgen
3️⃣ 17 OHP (17-Hydroxyprogesterone) - to check for non-classic adrenal hyperplasia from PCOS
