Every goal, advocacy, and venture starts with a cause.
Women in the Philippines continue to experience significant barriers in terms of accessing and affording women’s healthcare in the country. While legislative changes such as The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012 (RA 10354) are huge steps forward in our pursuit to promote women’s health (as it mandates universal access and information to contraception, fertility control, sexual education, family planning, and maternal care), the social stigma against it—especially in terms of sexual and reproductive health—continues to be its biggest barrier in our country today. Because of the tendency of society to treat women’s health as taboo, many Filipinas still lack the proper knowledge on reproductive, pregnancy, maternal, and postpartum health. This uncomfortable and intimidating healthcare environment has then created the fear of reaching out among women—causing most of them to delay the start of their health journeys.
These prevailing barriers eventually connected co-founders Abet and Jess, leading them to imagine a world where women can live without bias. As both of them worked in healthcare—with Abet innovating in the healthcare space for the last 10 years, and Jess, working as a hospital and clinic nurse before scaling startups—they shared similar sentiments regarding the need to create more safe spaces for women.
They believe that these hurdles are necessary to overcome as the lack of focus on women’s health is an opportunity for growth and change in our generation. They then sought to achieve this dream by making quality healthcare more accessible to women—elevating the idea of a “doctor’s visit” and creating a safe, non-judgmental space to help women feel calm, comfortable, celebrated, and cared for.
Kindred Healthcare Inc. was then born to empower women to take charge of their own health and destigmatize women’s health concerns—the first few steps to building the future of women’s health.
We then ask ourselves: “What is Kindred?”
Kindred is an all-in-one destination for all things female health—it provides end-to-end solutions from trusted and compassionate healthcare professionals, whether virtually or in person. Now exists a space where women can get checked without feeling ashamed or disregarded, and where taboo issues around women’s health are normalized. By providing comprehensive plans of care and treatment through a collaborative care model, Kindred holistically accompanies women in the pursuit of their own health journeys.
With Kindred being the first hybrid, online-to-offline (O2O) femtech company in the Philippines, it paves the way for women to comfortably share their experiences and consult online—encouraging them to become proactive in seeking out help and helping them understand their options—making it easy for them to decide the next step for themselves offline.
“We are creating a cohesive woman-centric patient experience by bridging virtual and physical clinics, enabling healthcare providers to deliver high-quality care with consistency” Jessica de Mesa, CEO and Co-Founder of Kindred, shares in her interview with Business World.
Kindred then exists to empower every Filipina to take charge of her health, as defined by herself. As Kindred champions women through an integrated ecosystem of virtual and in-clinic holistic health services, it helps women navigate and understand their options, guiding them through every step.
Building the future for women’s health.
At Kindred, we're on a mission to change the way society looks at women's health. As we continue to develop clinics where a holistic approach and a woman-centric patient experience become a priority, we help build a future where women are empowered to create well-informed decisions to take care of themselves.
This is an evolving journey for both women and our generation—we aim to help each and every Filipina access the best standard of care possible. In this way, we hope that Kindred can be that source of support in your health journey where you can look after yourself and the other women in your lives too.
